Wernicke, Edelmann & Co, Berlin, Germany

Edelmann was the second mass produced typewriter in Europe. It came on the market in 1897 at a time when the keyboard typewriters already dominated the market. It was considerable cheaper than the keyboard typewriters. Production ceased in 1910. It was a linear type index typewriter with a type wheel. Different characters were selected by a knob. Edelmann is of unusual design and beautifully decorated. As a historical typewriter it is valued by collectors. During its short lifespan it had four consecutive manufacturers.
